We've been goofing around in cities and watching bike races and we are hoping to catch up on our schedule. But both Lorie and I have come down with colds with chest coughs and that changes things a bit since we don't feel much like riding too long.
Today we rode from Cangas de Onis to Oviedo, about 50 miles and not very much climbing. Not a bad ride; the weather was good. The next two days were supposed to be really long catch-up days so we are going to be nimble again and see if we can either catch the regional narrow gauge rail line (Feve) across the rest of Northern Spain to Ferrol, near the very Northwest tip of Spain, or rent a car that's big enough to hold the bike for a day and drive to somewhere along our future route (we need to return the car to somewhere in Spain else pay a huge EU drop off fee). Maybe Santiago de Compostela.
In any event, here's today's route.
We started reasonably early in some thick fog -- mild, but damp. But the sun was quick to burn off the fog and warm our backs. The road was fairly busy compared to what we'd been riding the past few weeks, but it had a wide shoulder and I can't say enough how generous the Spanish drivers have been. Even the big trucks that ought to be on a schedule just slow down if there is any doubt about not having enough room to pass the bikes. It makes for very nice and relaxed riding.
Then again, there are a lot of bikes on the road, even on a Monday morning. Cycling is just part of the fabric, I guess.
We made great time for the ride and we stopped for a nice cup of coffee in some tiny village and had a nice chat with all the town's women, who apparently had nothing better to do. We are still in the Asturian region, so everything is a bright blue color.

| Lots of houses are painted this same blue color |
It matches the flag, I think:

| Asturias Flag |
And they have bulls on the hills with, well, whatever...
 |
| Blue balls? It isn't that cold...but it is Asturias |
We're made it to Oviedo in no time it seems. This is a huge industrial town that appears to attract a lot of tourist groups --they say that old town is pretty nice. We're going to visit a couple of car rental agencies to see what we can come up with for tomorrow. You'll be the second to know!
Meanwhile, here are a few photos from around town as we wandered -- including a nice lunch of serious Caesar salad for me, and a unique Asturian twist on a Caprese salad for Lorie.
